The first of many things to come

Sunday, July 29

Ok so I didn't make the little girl...but she is next on the list!! But heres what I did make. I did a brush finish.....but would like to try a shiny polish...need to use another machine to do that.

~~ missing images (old post) - should fix this one

The bunny is to become a brooch.
I'm liking the woodland animal type of images and I think the "cut-out" or "cut-in" effect (if thats the correct name for it) is really nice.

Mikes tonight...Ive got my Kurt Halsey pattern ready to go!

Girlie Cutout

Friday, July 27

This little girl is soon to become my first peice of jewellery.

My silver arrived today and I realised I ordered double what I wanted...woops...no wonder it cost heaps! oh well that means I will have some left over to make other cutsie designs.

Im planning on doing 2 pieces. One will be this girl "cut into" a rectangle pendant. Another will be a cut-out of her.

Im really excited about making them tomorrow...I hope they turn out as Im visualising!

You Belong in Paris

You enjoy all that life has to offer, and you can appreciate the fine tastes and sites of Paris.
You're the perfect person to wander the streets of Paris aimlessly, enjoying architecture and a crepe.
What European City Do You Belong In?

Hmm Paris..yes I think so!!

Stitching

Thursday, July 19

ah what a cute little birdie.
This little guy is from the first of the Mikes stitching nights.

Now to turn him into a little purse. hmm time to get the sewing machine out of the closet and attempt to use it again without breaking a needle.

Silversmithing

On Saturday I started a short course in Silversmithing (see earlier blog and my 2 goals...this is the first goal)

Things I learn't
1. how use a metal file and the different types. i.e a bastard file and a 2-cut.
2. how to use a jewellers saw and the difference between that and an ordinary saw.
3. how to solder and join metals
4. different metal finishes - my favourite is "orange peel effect" which is really just a hammer being bashed against your metal in a repetitive pattern to form small round dents.
5. how to anneal copper
