A home for Alice

I'm not sure if you've heard of this yet..but its a collective Polaroid exhibition to be held in Melbourne.

The image is a bit hard to read, but if you click and view bigger then it becomes clear.

So what you think? I'm thinking I will send a Polaroid of my mum's house, cause mine isn't all that interesting. Plus its more the place I consider to be home.

Interview with Street Artist MISO

There was an interesting article in today's M magazine about Melbourne's young artists, including street artist Miso. (click image to read)

I love her paste ups around Melbourne, here is one I found in Fitzroy with Kelly and Bec.

Post rules at the beginning of the post. Answer all of the questions, tag 6 people, go to their blog and leave them a comment to inform them that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog for rules. Let the person who tagged you know when you've posted your answers.

1. What were you doing 10 years ago?

I would of been in high school in a little country town called Leeton, dreaming about the day I get to leave.

2. what are the 5 things on your to do list today?

1) finish writing this report for work
2) go to the bank
3) do my tax (eeek!)
4) cancel my sunday newspaper (save the trees, I can read it all online now)
5) put my uni application in

3. Snacks you enjoy

chocolate, chocolate, chocolate.
or Turkish bread and dip.
or some yummy cheese with wine.

4. Places you have lived

1) Leeton, NSW
2) Albury, NSW
3) Melbourne, VIC

5. What are 5 things you would do if you were a Billionaire?

1) buy an apartment in New York exactly like the one Carrie and Big got in SATC movie. I LOVED that walk-in wardrobe.
2) buy a heap of farm land off the struggling farmers and turn it back into nature reserves. I'd probably then hire my brother who is studying ecology to manage it.
2) give money to all my family to help them out
3) hire someone to cook for me
4) set up my own business in a creative field, to help out artists

6. People you want to know more about:

1) Feist - I love her

2) Abbie Cornish as Heidi in Somersault

3) Bjork - creative genius, please tell me your secrets !

4) Juno - I love this girl, her attitude reminds me of myself in high school.

5) Gemma Ward - how do you get such a freakish symmetrical face? and the only model I know of who can successfully move into acting, think The Black Balloon.

6) My Best Friend - she always manages to inspire me, I want to know what goes on in that crazy head of hers.

I hate baking.

Actually its more then that, I detest it. Give me someone else's baked food any day but just don't ask me to bake.
I feel inadequate to my fellow baking bloggers. Did I somehow miss the baking gene? cause my mum bakes, and so does my nan. But my sister and I, nope no baking happening here. In fact its not just baking, we don't cook either. Lucky we both have lovely boyfriends who don't mind cooking.

My last endevour to bake proved disastrous...I got myself a copy of the Frankie cookbook and picked out the easiest possible recipe to make, chocolate balls.

Do you think I could even make that? nope. They didn't taste anything like the chocolate balls I remember nan making.

so There I said it. I don't do baking. please don't think any less of me.

polaroid by collie

In my days of living at home whenever I complained about something, my mum would say with this condescending tone and roll of the eyes "wait till your out in the real world, then you'll know what life's all about !".

I'm still not sure what my mum meant by that, but I think this Polaroid might explain a bit of it.

How terribly depressing, anyone wanna sell everything, buy a van and drive around Australia?

If not then at least check out more of Colie's polaroids at her flickr.

crack me up

Today one of my co-workers emailed me this when I asked them about their long weekend.....

i found some cheap drinks at dan-murphys on the weekend.
vodka + cola $13 for a six pack @ 7% alcohol.
i bought some.
taste pretty crap though.
my highlight for the weekend.

Totally cracked me up! Its like the perfect short story, you can read so much into it and picture him finding the cheap drinks...getting all excited. Then disappointed.

But maybe its just me, I have been known to have a weird sense of humour.

This is.....my favourite travel memory

Gecko's bookstore in Chiang Mai

It really difficult to single out a favourite travel memory but Ill try. So I'm going with my most recent travels to Thailand. I started by traveling around the south with my boyfriend on one of those organised tours. After he left I stayed on for a few weeks to meet up with my bestie in Bangkok.

Bangkok being a dirty smelly place was really unappealing to spend 2 weeks in. So I booked myself a flight to the North and went on an adventure. This turned out to be the best decision I could of made. I based myself in Chiang Mai and traveled to see the hill tribe peoples and the Golden triangle. But the real highlight was the town of Chiang Mai itself. This little place was packed full of book stores and art galleries, my perfect place !

The picture is of a book store that I spent ages looking through. All the books in the store were left behind by other travelers. You could buy a book and then return it later getting half your money back. I loved the idea that I could pick up a book that was read by another traveler, and perhaps even brought over from their own country, and now left for me to find.

Thanks Hila for this weeks theme.
