I used to spend my vacations in a place with several abandoned houses as a child and I loved and love to discovered that kind of places and their stories

strange how this serie of pictures by Jan Durina is all soft and sweet and dreamy, and the rest of his photography is all the contrary of this.. more trash,more sexual and more hum may I say "hype"? ... too bad... I love this serie but i don't like his other pics... strange.
oh I came to that point: are you SURE those three wonderful pics are by Jan durina? isnt there any mistake? I really can't understand :S
Bauman's series is moving. Very sad, so many grand old houses left to crumble. And what of the poor families who could not afford to keep them and take care of them? It's wonderful that Bauman is giving a portion of the print sales toward efforts to help the people of Detroit. Because my profession (and also a passion of mine) is restoring and renovating homes, I see beauty and possiblity in each one of these.

@Sophie Takes Pictures ~ this series is a huge contrast to the rest of his work. I changed the link to take you directly to the series. here He has a few other nice works in the fashion and poses sets on his page. But im not into the rest of this work.
@The Cottage Cheese ~ oh I didntk now he was donating some to Detroit. Im reading middlesex at the moment and its all based in Detroit, so looking at these pictures I think about the stories told in the book.

Ooo, I love the first photos so much! I also lovelovelove the abandoned houses. We live near route 23 here in Ohio, and there are TONS of abandoned houses all along that road. It's amazing! =)

i had to just read alot about detroit for an anthropology course i was taking and there are many reasons that those houses are abandoned...unfortunately. an interesting book on the subject is john hartigan's "racial situations", if you're interested. but how beautiful would it be if someone could see the pretty in them, step in and take some on as a project :)
cute pictures of the girl! i wish people would take better care of all the houses! the architecture is amazing and if people would just take care of them they wouldn't be abandoned places people are going to tear down!

@vert cerise ~ oh my gosh, im looking at the photos and its so sad!! some beautiful places just abandoned...I think im going to have to read up more about this place, being Australian I dont know much about American history...but Im so intrigued.

The first series of pictures are very beautiful, the warm, nude tones and the light that pierces through the window. I checked the rest of his work, even though the rest is harsher then this series, it does show skill and some of them just have a certain something about them. the abandoned houses, it's weird, whenever you see a house like that you connect it to a personality, they just breathe sadness and a certain sense of beauty...

Those houses remind me of an old castle-like building here in my town. When I was little (I still am, in a way) I used to believe a witch lived there, who would cast a spell on all children that crossed her rusted gate.
@Jules ~ The rest of his work isnt really my style, Im just totally in awe of this particular shoot. But your right he does alot of skill, in particular a good eye for light!!

I live about an hour away from Detroit and there are a ridiculous amount of houses that were built in the 1930's or before that are now abandoned. It's very eerie and haunting in the Detroit communities that have had this happen.
I adore these houses. I just mentioned them on my own blog. Made sure to credit you, of course. :)

wow! i think the houses are amazing, but having been to detroit a number of times i am amazed that they could be captured as so hauntingly romantic. in real life i think they would be some places you would run from.
The pink house looks exactly like a house in my neighbourhood! But that one isn't abandoned hihi. I love the blog, the photographs always inspire me.
