Who made cupcakes cool?

Wednesday, July 29

Artwork and Print by Natalie Perkins

I was reading this blog post "Battle of The Cupcakes" and it got me thinking about how cupcakes are everywhere now! And I'm not complaining about the popularity of cupcakes, I love them as much as the next girl! But I'm just so curious as to how they shot to fame/popularity. I remember the days when I had them packed in my school lunches and you could get those stick on decorations of Disney characters (do you remember those?).

So once again Ive been having a little twitter discussion about it and some thoughts on the topic were...Sex And The City? perhaps Martha Stewart, or was it the craft/handmade revival?

So what are your thoughts on it, did you love cupcakes before they were cool?

EDIT: From the comments I'm getting, It seems like cupcakes have always been big. Perhaps its only in Australia that I'm noticing such a massive surge in popularity!

EDIT 2: Wow, in Spain cupcakes aren't popular or really know at all.

Lisa Mitchell - Coin Laundry

Tuesday, July 28

Shes doing the blog rounds this week, as her debut album comes out. But I couldn't resist also posting her new song here as I find her so adorable. Shes my favourtie idol and for me the best thing to have come out of the show!

Plus I have a soft spot for her cause shes from the same small town as me!

PS. You may know her through the Surf Advertisement that included her song Neopolitan Dreams.

Love vs Career Love

Monday, July 27

I've been having a bit of a discussion over on twitter about whether you would choose career success and the job of your dreams over love. I used to think I was very headstrong, independent and knew the answer in this situation, career! But that was the me who hadn't been in love before. That was the me who thought all relationships are doomed and didnt believe in marriage, yes I was very negative about relationships. My views have somewhat changed of late!! In fact I dont know whats happened to the strong willed independent girl I used to be.

So which would you choose?

EDIT: Im loving reading all these comments, so nice to hear your stories and advice!! one response (paraphrased): "It really isnt as simple as one over the other, its more about making some compromises for the sake of the relationship. And the right relationship will be worth the compromise" I think this is where I'm at, I wouldn't of ever compromised before, I was alot more selfish.

How to Post Large Images in Blogger

Wednesday, July 15

Photographer: Carl Kleiner / FC UNITED production / Fashion Emma Redeskog

A few people have asked me how to get the images in your post lager then the blogger restriction of 400px. Here is the tutorial that I used to do it on my blog, How to post large images in blogger. The tutorial says s400 or s800 but there is also s576 and s1600. I use s576 for mine (you'll get what I mean once you read the link).

I'm going away for work and a few days holiday, first to Canberra then the Gold Coast. I've organised posts for that time so you'll have plenty to come look at. Also I'll check comments/twitter/email when I get a chance or near a computer. I hope its nice and sunny once I get to the Gold Coast, I miss the sunshine!!!

enjoy the rest of the week, I'll come visit all your blogs once I'm back.

Artist :: Steph Chard

Sunday, July 12

Steph Chard a 19 year old painter from Brisbane, Australia is my latest art muse. Her work has already caught the eye of Queen Elizabeth II after doing a portrait of the Queen completely from Vegemite! Steph also has work in collections around the world including that of Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. Not bad for a girl still in art school!!

Prints available in her Etsy Shop.

PS. Thanks for all the comments about my interview, I loved reading them. I don't feel quite so weird now about being into maths&science but also loving art.

Hope your all having a nice weekend.

Interview

Friday, July 10

My efriend, Allison recently interviewed me for her blog, let me know what you think ! I spilled the beans on what my day job is....I bet you never would of guessed!!!

Allison also just launched an online boutique Aspiring Couture featuring the work of aspiring new designers. Like my latest crush Blushless, who create unique eco-friendly wedding dresses. I actually spent a fair chunk of today looking at wedding dresses, I feel all gooey inside now!! And no I'm not planning on getting married (well least not yet) just daydreaming. I actually get all teary at weddings, I cant help it !! do you?

Blushless has me breathless

I'm going through a bit of a black and white stage with my photo tastes lately. Which is different for me because I'm usually drawn to the softer dreamy colours.

Gorgeous Dresses by Blushless { via Aspiring Couture }.

And try looking for cheaper dresses online too.

Lauren Dukoff: Family

Thursday, July 9

I've only just come across the work of photographer Lauren Dukoff (via Stompface) but I must say it was love at first sight!! This may or may not have been due to the fact she photographed my girl crush Bat For Lashes. Lauren is launching her book FAMILY, next week at Space 15 Twenty in LA. The book is featuring portraits and candid images of Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, Entrance, Bat for Lashes, Cibelle, Vetiver, Ramblin Jack Elliott, Little Joy, and many more. So go along if your lucky enough to be in LA !!

PS. Fuck You, Peguin has had me in laughing fits this morning, read the otter post, so funny!

INTRODUCING: Every Little Counts

I'm so excited to introduce my new sponsor Every Little Counts, created in Los Angeles by husband and wife designer team Amy Snider and Adam Schwartz. They describe their label as ....created for a certain kind of girl; complex and independent while also flirtatious and romantic. Derived from daydreams, quiet nights outside of the city, the soft glow of streetlights, and staying up late listening to love songs.

In the past year they have produced four collections, with only limited pieces left from the earlier collections. View the latest collection Wild At Heart. They also recently opened a Vintage Store, yay (very well priced too!!)

If your interested in sponsoring daydreamlily then email me for some more information (see my sidebar for email address).

Kat Heyes: Creative Homes

Monday, July 6

I posted this last bedroom image once before after seeing it on weheartit and loving it! And today I came across the source, its from the home of illustrator Kat Heyes. And the rest of her home does not disappoint it's every bit as beautiful and inspiring. (view more here)

Thank you so much for the nice comments about getting Blog of Note! A few of you asked about my layout, I talked about it over in this post. I think I'll do some posts soon about blogging, layouts and things like how to make your images big, etc.. Once I get a little time (I'm always wanting more time!! wouldn't it be nice to be a full time blogger and blog around the world, now that's my dream job!)

Now back to some real work....

Saturday, July 4

Wow, I woke up this morning to find out that Ive been made A Blog of Note. I'm so excited and grateful, thank you blogger team!!!

I just passed my 2 year anniversary for blogging, can't believe its been that long! My blog initially started out as a way to connect with like minded creative people, and has evolved into a place where I bookmark and share all the inspirational things I find online or just to let out some thoughts (or song lyrics) running around my head. So thank you to everyone who has read my blog along the way and a big welcome to new readers, I'm very happy to have you here, make a cup of tea and have a look around :-)

PS. it was also my Mums birthday yesterday so an extra special day to be picked as Blog of Note

PSS. Image is from my bedroom, Id hate to think how much Polaroid film I went through to make that heart !!

Happy Weekend!

Thursday, July 2

For 18 months writer and editor Francesca Gavin travelled the world asking creative people for the chance to peek inside their homes. The findings are documented in the book Creative Space: Urban Homes of Artists and Innovators, featuring 30 homes including that of a favourite of mine, French graffiti artist Fafi. I'm feeling all inspired to go home and decorate!
