Sponsored by NuffNang

I was super excited when NuffNang told me about a new campaign with the latest Panasonic Lumix G2. I love cameras so thought it would be fun to take part, It also came at a good time for me, because I've set myself a goal to do more of my own photography for the blog. As part of the campaign a bunch of bloggers were sent the new Panasonic Lumix G2 to review. The camera arrived on a Friday and I was straight to trying it out at the markets on the Sunday.

The camera is somewhere between a Point-and-Shoot and an SLR, and very compact for its type. It has an intelligent auto Mode setting where the camera chooses all the best settings for you but you can also choose to shoot in full manual. I took these photos with the intelligent auto mode setting.

It also has a large LCD which is touch screen! I used the touch screen function alot to set the focus and exposure area I wanted, like in this photo on the front few teacups.

It comes in a standard pack (one lense 14-42mm) but you can also get the twin lense pack (45-200mm) which is a very powerful zoom lense for those that want it (RRP $1599). Very good value to get an additional 45-200mm lense.

You can choose from three different body colours (red, black and blue), which is cool not many others do. It also does HD movies!

Panasonic are also giving away a Lumix G2 Camera....
valued at $1299! The competition is being run across the participating blogs and one reader will win. To enter the competition and be in the running.... leave a comment here answering the question.

How would the Panasonic Lumix G2 make you a better photographer?

Don't forget to leave an email address so we can get in touch if you win.

The competition is only for Australian readers (sorry to my international, I promise to have a competition for you soon!) Full terms and conditions for the competition can be read at the NuffNang blog here.

Good Luck!

EDIT:
The competition closing date is Friday, 3 September at 11.59pm (AEST)

UPDATE: Winner has been announced on the NuffNang blog HERE...congrats to Hannah. So proud to have the winning entry here, you guys are the best!

  1. I'm entering the competition!

The little brother version of a DSLR will inspire me to take the camera with me wherever I please. Whether it be university, bush walking, or the busy streets of the city, my camera will always be with me, which allows me more opportunities to test the manual settings and expand my skills as a photographer.

  2. It would definitely inspire me to be a better photographer for many reasons.

I would be able to take the camera more often and would therefore, take more pictures.

I would be able to use auto and learn extra features at a slower pace.

  3. Oh wow....

While I love my DSLR, the Lumix would definitely allow me to be a more spontaneous photographer - especially for those events where people might not be comofrtable with a bulky SLR in their face and you'd be guaranteed more of chance to capture those candid moments.

Sometimes, it's nice not to think about the best possible settings for a shot and I think that would also def help having the flexibility to move between manual and auto functions.

A new camera would see me broaden my skills, and enable me to take larger photos (my phone takes bigger photos than my camera!)

  9. Oh wow! How much would I love one of these *squeal of girlish delight*, ahem, anyways.

How would the Lumix G2 make me a better photographer: Most importantly it would be the G2's dynamic qualities. SLRs are seemingly made to be set on a tripod all day - they're heavy, and big. Not the sort of thing you could take anywhere. The G2 would live in my bag without a problem. Secondly I love the flip screen, it's such a great idea. Not only does it protect the screen, but it means I can take self-portraits quicker, a definite plus for any blogger!
Finally I would love the flexibility of either auto or manual. For happy snaps auto is fine, but when you're serious you really need manual settings. Not to mention the Leica lens is basically flawless, which means zooming would not sacrafice my image quality.
The Lumix G2 would beat all my other cameras hands down!

And that is how it would make me a better photographer...

    :)

  13. That camera would mean so much to me. I'm currently a design student but i've been pretty unhappy with it, i've realised that photography is where my heart is at, you can share beautiful moments, capture something that will never happen again, the gift of capturing beauty and colour. I used to have a DSLR but on my way home from a trip it fell out and broke and so i havent taken photos since, this was over a year ago. when i get bored i sit on here and edit the photos i did take while i had a camera.

I'd love to be able to share how beautiful the world is with people again xx

  17. It would make me a better photographer because it just sounds so fun and helpful! The auto intelligent mode sounds like an absolute dream, and when I get better at taking photos, having the manual option would be wonderful too. Not only that, the touch screen seems so so handy - with a camera like this, who wouldn't be motivated to be a better photographer? :)

  18. The Panasonic Lumix G2 would allow me to shoot from the hip, snap in style, remember everything in a kalaidoscope of vibrant brilliant colour, store memory after memory like trinkets on a charm bracelet, record each second in crystal clear, click and capture all those beautiful, secret moments that you blink-and-miss, make magic at the tap of a finger, and hold everything wonderful, horrible, happy, sad, tear-streaked, giggle-ridden, breathtaking and beautiful all in the palm of my hand.

  21. Wow what a great competition.

The G2 would make me a better photographer, and a more frequent photographer, as like most people who've commented have said; it's compact enough to take everywhere.

My digital camera was in a handbag which was stolen when I first moved to Melbourne. Since then I've made do with a little point and shoot, my mobile phone, and the many disposable and vintage film cameras I've been embracing. These are expensive though, developing film and prints, and generally tend towards being unreliable (sometimes, particularly in Summer, this translates to happy surprises though).

The G2 would mean I finally have a 'real' camera again...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh and I forgot to ask - which markets did you take these at??

(reading through the comments so far I feel like Kit Palaskas should win for such beautiful words, as much as I would like to take better/more photographs for my own blog)...

  25. A Panasonic Lumix G2 camera would improve my photography as I currently only have very limiting camera of my iphone to take my photos with! I used to use my dad's old Minolta SLR and loved that control (or randomness also) that an SLR gives but with my limited skills find the digital SLR's quite daunting. As the Panasonic Lumix G2 is a combo of a point and shoot and an SLR I think it would be perfect for my abilities but also allows for some creativity to come into play.

  28. This is a pretty awesome giveaway. And it looks like a pretty nifty camera - you took some great shots on it. I only ever use a chunky old digital or film cameras, so I think this would make me a better photographer as it fills in that 'in-between' void. The compact nature would make me want to take it with me everywhere, and I'd have it handy for all those moments where usually I'd look back and thing "geez I wish I had my camera on me". xx

  29. I don't believe a camera can make you a better photographer. What does make you a better photographer however is being able to interpret what you see in new and interesting ways, to broaden your perception, and then capturing it accordingly. Due to the G2's portability because of it's small size and lightness, any opportunity can be a photo opportunity. Nothing has to go uncaptured, no moment left to memory. And its in-camera features are so amazing, the experimentation is limitless! I'm a sucker for lots of features, and this camera has it by the bucketload. I would definitely love one.

  33. How would the Panasonic Lumix G2 make you a better photographer?

Well for one thing, i would finally own my own camera. Have always had to borrow my dad's sony slr camera. Plus with having the point and shoot option i would be able to take it to concerts and anywhere pretty much.
The lens quality of the camera would help alot with taking photos and the quality of the images when you shoot at low iso settings. Also love the Swivel Screen, heaps cool.
I dont think it would personally make my photography any better but it would help me alot and also inspire me aswell to take alot more photos, professional and casual. It would also just me me a very happy person :)

  34. Gosh!!
There are so many ways this one camera could change my life and make me a better photographer. As I'm in year 12, the Panasonic Lumix G2 would give me the chance to create a beautiful photography folio, I'm only working with a small point and shoot which has lasted well and been good to me (a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS2), but I have forever wanted an SLR, and having a wonderful new camera with these settings would mean I could take photographs to better show the objects and scenes I want to capture.
I’m not yet really good with how to work manual cameras, but I’ve always wanted to learn how. Having the auto mode would help me be able to take great photos instantly, and the manual mode will be able to teach me how to set the camera correctly for each separate shoot, as my own camera always focuses and sets itself, which doesn’t give me as much freedom to be creative.
I have always wanted to become a travel photographer, taking photographs of people, animals, scenery and places, to show what others’ lives are like and the beauty which is in this world. A camera of this type would give me the opportunity to take really nice photographs for my blog, which I hope to grow into something inspiring.
Apart from my parents’ camera (which blurs in almost every photo), the camera I mentioned above is the only camera my family owns. Now, I’m not asking for sympathy or anything haha, but a new camera of this calibre, would mean all our familys’ photos would look gorgeous.
Thanks for this opportunity, even if it does not end up being my life that it changes, I’m sure it will make someone else out there extremely happy.

  35. The auto mode on the Panasonic Lumix G2 would help me immensely! I'm well-intentioned but not entirely adept. I need a little guidance, so I think that feature would be super for me. Who knows, maybe after some help I'd have enough confidence to start playing around in the manual mode!

  36. I’ve just moved city. I moved to explore, to challenge, to work hard, to be creative, to learn, to do something I had always wondered about since I first stepped foot here over ten years ago. I underestimated how hard this would be. Sometimes I feel so sad and miss my home, my family so much that I can’t quite see the beauty in this new place and in my transition. I’m afraid if I look too closely I will lose my old place. My home. It’s hard to control optimistically this resistance to the new place. I had never anticipated this. But it is beautiful. I need this camera to see things here. Maybe a new camera will allow me to see without being afraid. To find the beauty everywhere. To capture this moment in my life when I have taken a risk, done something different, steered the course of my ship in a different direction. And to share with others. The features and size of this camera would make it all so simple as there are so many other things going on no. Plus I’m a little broke and the screen on my own digital camera has just broken. I would treasure it.

  47. I didn't have a camera for my first trip to India, 2 years ago. It broke, 2 days after I arrived. It normally wouldn't have bothered me , except that I had traveled to India to marry my husband in a traditional Sikh wedding ceremony, and without any of family members around me, I was hoping to take lots of pictures to show them when I got back. Whilst we had a professional photographer on the day, we missed out on capturing all those quiet moments, candid moments, which are always the most beautiful memories.
The Panasonic Lumix G2 camera is just what we need for our next trip back to India, in a few months time, because we're going back to see all those wonderful things we couldn't capture the first time. My husband's family, friends & neighbours, who so warmly welcomed me, a complete stranger, into their lives. The enormous & beautiful Sikh temple where we were married. The old Rajasthani hotel where we spent our honeymoon, and the rooftop restaurant we spent New Years Eve in, whilst watching fireworks light up the desert sky. And most of all, the days we spent wandering the lane ways and chaotic streets, exploring big cities and tiny villages.

The camera wouldn't make me a better photographer, but I'd just like the opportunity to collect all those little memories, those snippets of time, and show them to my family & friends back here in Australia.

  49. I would adore winning the Panasonic Lumix G2 camera because basically I'm embarrassing my kids with my old camera. It would be like my birthdays and Christmas coming all at once.
I'm desperately trying to keep up with all the technology out there today, but when I produce my old camera I lose all street credibility! (If I ever had any to begin with that is)
It even makes a rather loud noise when I switch it on, so even if I've been discrete it alerts everyone in the near vicinity that there's an ancient relic at work.....not me the camera!
Although no-one is admitting to it I believe someone has tried to bump it off, quite literally – the battery door won’t shut completely now – I think it may have been dropped from a height! I realise that its days are numbered but I’ve got such plans....
I’ve started writing a blog and realise that good photographs are definitely the way to go. You can see from my photo’s already posted that the Lumix would be such a benefit.
I love art and photography and having both the manual and the automatic options would allow choices and be a brilliant way to expand my photographic knowledge.

Thanks for even giving me the opportunity to win

  69. Oh my gosh! This is an amazing giveaway :D!

How would the Panasonic Lumix G2 make me a better photographer? Mm, I am a recently-turned-19-year old who loves photography :D I'm currently using a kodak point-and-shoot camera, which doesn't have many features (and costed about $90, lol) and I don't have the money to buy a proper/good camera and my family believe that DSLRs or any expensive cameras are for "real" photographers =( Despite knowing that it's not all about the quality of the photos but it's the subject and emotions that you get from the photos that count, I still feel "restricted" ... and it gets frustrating sometimes when I can't get the focus or the lighting and such right because there isn't really an option--the camera doesn't let me change the focus!! =( And because of little things like that, the photos aren't as good as they can be =\

I don't think the Panasonic Lumix G2 will make me a better photographer ... but I think it'll help me take the photos that I want =D

How would the Panasonic Lumix G2 make me a better photographer?

Quite simply, it won't. Being better can be subjective. I might like my photos, but maybe others wouldn't. So what would the Lumix do for me then?

Inspire me. I think that's an integral part in the creation of every great photo. Plus then I'd be able to keep up with my avid wannabe-pro photographer sister!

  71. Using the touchscreen to focus would be ideal for me! I find it hard to use the focus settings sometimes on my current camera, particularly when I'm trying to focus on items not in the centre of the shot. Of course you are meant to set the focus, and then reframe the shot on my camera - which takes time and sometimes I miss "the" shot on moving targets!

I can live out that fantasy right here in my own city without even having to board a plane! All I need is the camera in hand, a mind at the ready and a heart ready to engage. Living in the moment is difficult when you are so busy, but being given the opportunity to stop and think about the here and now is even more rewarding when the technology you are using feels pleasurable to the touch. The tools the Lumix G2 gives you provides you the opportunity to capture an imagined vision that really is magical.

  75. With a Panasonic Lumix G2 camera I will be able to take photographs of everyday moments, so that one day I can stare my reality with the kids. From traveling to strange and wonderful places to sitting around without make up in Pj's.. real days, achieving real dreams.

  76. It is not every day that you find a camera you would like to work with: but Lumix G2 seems to be an excellent match for my temperament to practice photography under challenging situations. I referred back to my colleagues: they said it would be a great opportunity to build off one’s hobby.
In the very last semester of my bachelor’s degree, during a recruitment session conducted for graduating students by the organization where I acquired my first job, individuals were asked: whom amongst the class mates would they most prefer to work with. Nine people in a row gave my name in response to that question. The recruiters hired me instantaneously: apparently, I used to make people feel the most comfortable and confident; discovering a new side of them with my steadfast and amusing style of taking pictures with just a point and shoot. I have still managed to hold onto that title with just the camera on my cell phone. I work hard and am even a harder pursuer of my passions for travel, people and food. I would simply love to have Lumix G2 as my partner in that pursuit.

  77. If this little gem came to me,
My world would be most heavenly!
I'd take it with me everywhere,
So I'd have great pics to share.
    Lumix is a classic brand,
To win this prize would be 'most' grand!

  78. The camera is evidently very impressive, but for those amateur photographers (cough*me* cough), it would give me more confidence and inspiration to take beautiful photos, because it still gives guidance. It encourages me to carry on, and makes me realise that there are so many things in the world i have never looked at properly
All in all, it would be pretty excellent to have this amazing camera. obviously...
I'm no expert photographer, but i see photos like these and i feel so incredibly inspired. it would make me a better photographer because makes me want to go explore or go on adventures and look at things from a different perspective.
To me, the camera would be used to preserve memories, capture moments and experiement and give me a path to express myself in a new way.

On another note, imagine if one day I became famous, you could claim it was you who made me a better photographer, who gave me my first REAL camera, think of the posibilities...

The camera sounds amazing and i am so envious of those in posession of one.

    Thankyou for reading
    yours sincerly

  84. Oh wow what a great competition.
I'd love to win this camera.
I inherited my brothers old, actually VERY old Canon and it's ok but I could certainly do with a brand spanking new one. This camera looks amazing.

  85. Ah Lumix..... I hear you speaking to me. What's that Lumix? You are a G2? You want to be owned by who? By me you say? You can feel the need with your intuitive powers? I can't argue with you Lumix G2 .....

  86. How would the Panasonic Lumix G2 make you a better photographer?

It would make me a better photographer in the sense that, I would be able to capture the beautiful things in life clearly without having the moments go by, undocumented. As cheesy as this sounds,I would love to win the competition for that exact reason and I'm a student so I can't quite afford something so awesome :(

  87. I would love to win the Panasonic Lumix G2 - it would help me take better photos because my camera was completely trashed by my small fry. The lens is scratched - and well there's not a lot of great photos to come from that.

  88. It wouldn't make me a better photographer.
But it would certainly make my Dad a better photographer. Does that count?
I "borrowed" his film camera many years ago and he's been without a camera since. Time for an upgrade and what a great starting point!

  89. When time and space come together to create that perfect moment of pure beauty, a mental picture is not enough!

Capturing those moments of inspiration is not always possible with my iphone camera (though I do indulge in a hipstamatic print or two *shame*) or my crappy digi.

So while this camera probably won't make me a better photographer it will give me much better photo quality - this workman doesn't want to blame their tools any longer!

  92. Oh swoon!

It would be easy for the Panasonic G2 to make me a better photography, by being so much smaller and sexier than my brutish dslr it would be my lifelong companion and I wouldn't dare go anywhere without it by my side!

  93. Oh goody - a blue camera- with a big touch screen- and does all the work! It would make me a better photographer because I am currently using a digital slr whilst balancing a new baby in one hand. Having all that technology and innovation would make one handEd photoing possible!
    Pick me:)

  97. Planning to start a project focusing on street FOOT photography in Melbourne, the Lumix G2 will definitely assist me in being more versatile in my shots without having to carry around a bulky (but nonetheless epic) DSLR around Melbourne in constant fear of its safety! :(

  98. Oh wow, this would be an amazing camera to have EVER! I've only ever had a small digital camera and have always lusted for DSLR to get to the next level of photography.

I take my little camera with me everywhere to capture little mundane moments to full on memorable events. The new Lumix G2 will totally amp my photographs to the next level, adding new depth, focus and magic!

Thanks for the chance and good luck to all. donna.vitan(gmail)com

  100. I would love the Panasonic Lumix G2: How will the Panasonic Lumix G2 make you a better photographer?

It is a great, easy to use camera that will give me quality photos. I have taken so many photos but they never turn out right, so I haven’t been able to use them. So many times I have the intention to write a blog about a beauty feature/tutorial but I cant because I dont have a good camera to take good photos.
The Panasonic Lumix G2 will help me be a better photographer because it will give me good quality pictures that I can use and be proud of especially with the auto function it has – nothing will be missed when taking a photo. I also make videos for my YT channel so the HD video function, will definitely come in handy to tape good quality videos too.
I want a simple, easy to use, great features and good quality camera and the Panasonic Lumix G2 is just that.

  101. If a point and shoot and a DSLR had a baby and the baby name is Lumix G2 ~ then I'm gonna carry this baby everywhere and see the world through its interchangable eyes!! It will grow as I grow as a photographer capturing this new world ~!

  102. How would the Panasonic Lumix G2 make you a better photographer?

The line 'The camera is somewhere between a Point-and-Shoot and an SLR' kind of got to me. Like, it would give me the opportunity to get use to a baby-SLR camera, and thus, it may give me the courage to purchase an actual SLR camera in the future. Also, a intelligent auto mode setting? How can't that make me a better photographer? :D
