The Road Trip

Saturday, August 21

Here's some pictures of the road trip to Queensland. We spent three days on the road and travelled 1700 kilometres. Our stuff didn't arrive at our new place until late Tuesday night so we spent some time sitting on blankets in an empty house waiting. I'm still getting furniture for the new place as we got rid of most of the furniture we had before. I'm having trouble finding stuff I like though up here on the Gold Coast, as it seems that the retro/vintage type furniture I like isn't as easy to find as it was in Melbourne. If you know where I can find that type of stuff up here do tell! In particular I'd love a kitchen table and chairs like in this post.

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend!
x

PS. A big thank you to my guest bloggers who helped out during the big move.

How exciting for you! Best of luck with the transition, new adventures are such fun! I'm sure you'll land on your feet in no time and will definitely settle in.
Don't know much about the goldcoast area but Paddington in Brisbane has some smashing antiques! You will have to invest a good 2 hours into the old theatre building on Latrobe tce! You will have such fun.

Good luck lovely miss x x

  19. Welcome to Queensland! :) I'm a Brisbanite, but last time I was at the coast I saw a few little vintage clothes/furniture stores dotted along the Gold Coast Highway -turning right from the casino (down towards the burleigh end I mean). I think there are also markets at Burleigh? That would be worth checking out. But overall I think you need to venture out of the surfers, central area to find those vintage goodies. It certainly is a different lifestyle from Melbs! Where abouts on the Gold Coast are you living exactly? Oh, and if you are after some OpShop finds here are the addresses..

  20. That's a looooong journey, but so pretty along the way! I was going to suggest Paddington Antique Centre in Brisbane too (I used to live on the same street, and spent a LOT of time in there, some of the clothes are to.die.for ;)) There's also the Wooloongabba antique centre too. Otherwise, you might need to daytrip to Byron/Ballina as there's a bunch of amazing op shops along the Pacific Highway.

  21. @Surprisingly Suzie ~ thanks for the suggests. Im based at Mermaid Beach.

@mysweetmuse ~ a trip to brisbane is definately needed!

  24. Puppies!

I hope you have some luck with furniture.
I found that sort of retro/vontage stuff was very popular in the city i recently moved to. Which meant hard to find and very pricey!

  25. I also don't know Gold Coast too well. Although there was a good mid century furniture place along the highway (I think near Burleigh) last time I was up there.

Woolloongabba antique centre & Paddington antique centre are both great as mentioned already. If you go to the woolloongabba antique centre you must have breakfast/lunch at the Pearl Cafe, it is lovely and the food is amazing.

There is also a big place in Woolloongabba called ?Briscoes on stanley street - its a bit of a junk store aka hit and miss but you could find something there. And a huge lifeline is next door which although hit and miss occasionally has good furniture.

    Good luck !

  27. Welcome to Queensland!! Hope you will love it up here as much as we do!

Their was a fabulous retro/danish/mid century furniture place along the gold coast highway. Its worth a visit.

A few fab places in Brissy - today I went antique shopping at the Woollongabba antiques centre, their is also a great one at Paddington and Newstead too. Logan road in Woollongabba is also a favourite.

If your ever looking for new Queensland friends - make sure you say hello and we can meet for tea and cake one day :)

  32. Oh, lovely! I'm sure there are gems to find on the Gold Coast, but they might take some hunting behind the bling. I second Paddington and Wooloongabba in Brissie as your best bets, but you could try south in the Murwillumbah/Bangalow/Byron area too - make a day (or two) trip of it! Best of luck, and welcome to Queensland!

  37. hello daydream lily,

I stumbled upon your blog a couple of months back and I always get carried away perusing the lovely pictures!

I similarly did the move to the Gold Coast but from Sydney a year ago for a boy!...So here are my tips

    Check out:
Vintage cafe in Mermaid (it's a really cute cafe)
Lifeline Molindinar - for cheap second hand furniture, a bit hit and miss though!
Antique centre - Gold Coast highway, Miami
There is a cool antique shop in Coolangatta, but the name escapes me!

    Hope that helps!

  44. for some nice things to fill your new place with you could try the massive antique/oldwares place at the end of Griffith street in coolangatta, and there's a cafe/shop in mermaid beach called gov's which has alot of treasures.

if you're in the mood to go down the road a little bit, then theres are really cool (slightly pricey) place called 'heath's oldwars' in bangalow :)

    happy hunting!
