Diana Mini Tips #2
08:16

I took them way back when my brother did a photo shoot for Hopeless....and you might recognise the model is the lovely Esme and the lane way who also happens to be on the cover of the current issue of Peppermint Magazine!
Anyways some more learning's and tips I've gotten from using the Diana Mini. I've now owned two versions both the original blue/black and the white.
- Film Advance: One of the main complaints for the Diana Mini is the film advance. I have had trouble with the film advance, I've learn NOT to force it because you will tear the film. The white version has improved film advance compared to the original blue/black. But still the white version tricks you into thinking you have advanced it enough and you havent and your film will come back completely overlapped with double or triple exposures. So my advice. The best you can do is either fix the film advance following this tutorial... or advance the film each time until you feel a bit of tension. That is usually enough to be on the next frame.Dont let it worry you out of using it though...after a few rolls of film you will get the hang of how to work it.
- Indoors: I haven't had any luck taking indoors photos - unless I use the flash. But personally I'm not really into using the flash, I prefer natural light. I tried a higher speed film (800 ISO) but that only came back super grainy. I guess you could also try a tripod and the bulb 'B' setting if you really wanted to do indoor photos but I haven't worried with it.
- Film & Light: I stick to using 200 or 400 ISO film and take photos in daylight for best results. My current favourite film is the Lomography 400 ISO colour.
- Diana Mini tips part #1 - I wrote this after my first few rolls of film through the Diana Mini

Gorgeous photos. Really stunning. Thanks for the tips.. I'm a little intimidated by my Diana mini. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are so beautiful, you are actually one of the most talented lomography shooters I've ever seen!

@i.d. ~ same, usually I will get a few photos each roll that I love.
ReplyDeletethese photos are so lovely, i've been thinking about getting a diana mini for a while now! x
ReplyDeleteThese are so lovely. I really love the softness dreamlike aspect of it. You're so right about the film advance! It's really tricky. I always get nervous about advancing the film because it feels like it's being forced too much and destroy the whole film.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see more of your work posted :)

This is stunning! Oh please, please, please more posts of your own photos just like this one! :) And such good tips too. I have to agree, I haven't done much indoor shots, never turn out that great.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! I'm learning to love my new Diana at the moment!
ReplyDeleteThese are absolutely gorgeous, Liss. The Diana Mini seems like it really belongs in your hands. I've been thinking about getting one for a while now. I was going to ask you if you recommend a camera like this for my little sister, but judging from the tips I don't think it would suit a 7 year old who just wants to push the button. So I got her an instax camera instead.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is so inspiring! I just awarded it with the Stylish Blog Award at my blog! xxx
ReplyDeleteyour photos look so lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tips!!!
ReplyDeletewow these are gorgeous!!
ReplyDeletei love them
Thanks for the tips, I'm a new to the diana mini as well, and just recently purchased a flash. Stoked! :)
ReplyDeletelovely pictures btw.
@Sundari ~ aw thank you. I think the Instax is a great choice for your little sister. I'd say the Diana Mini is better for ages 12and up.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are beautiful. Thanks for the tips will come in handy when I eventually own my own Diana:)

ReplyDeleteOh wow, these photos are beautiful!
ReplyDeletegreat shots. I own a Mini and a Diana+ too and I feel my Mini lacks quality compared to her big sister. You shots look more like they were done with the Diana + so my compliments.
ReplyDeleteI also fail in indoor settings and prefer a 400 ISO. Am looking forward to seeing more shots. :-)
Great shots!!fantastic
ReplyDeleteHello. I came across your blog while reading up tips for a diana mini. It was pretty helpful and I really like your photographs! Btw, Diana mini has a half shot function ( The 24x17 instead of the normal 24x24 ) and I was wondering would you recommend to use that function?
ReplyDeleteThis blog has made my morning (and put off my university work until this afternoon!). Have decided to buy a Diana Mini for the coming summer and to go mad - thank you for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteCould you use normal film? Not the Lomography one?
ReplyDeleteAmazing atmosphere ! What a lovely blog you have..
ReplyDeleteI just bought my own Diana mini and can't wait to see the photos.
