My 5 rules for life + GIVEAWAY:: $200 Peeptoe Shoes Voucher
13:48
All you need is love (and cameras)
This one speaks for itself.

A place for everything and everything in its place
This is a saying my Ninny always said and it has stuck with me whenever I'm trying to get my house sorted. I need to follow this one more often.

Treat yourself
Me time is something I really value as well as being kind to yourself, you deserve some fresh flowers, you deserve time to have a cup of tea and read a book, take the time to treat yourself!

Travel, never stop learning & always question
Ever since I was a little girl I've questioned everything...I think my Dad would get sick of me always asking things like "how does the moon and sun work? but why?" it's no wonder I ended up a scientist.
Also travel has always been something I want to do and do more of, nothing helps you learn more about yourself, give perspective on what's important and see how others live. I hope my life can always be full of travel.

wake early + drink coffee
I love morning time, it's my favourite time of the day and I've always been an early riser. Mornings are so quiet and still and full of promise of the day ahead. It's also the perfect time to get things done before the days distractions start. With a coffee in hand!!
♥
I was asked to share my 5 rules for life as part of the Appletiser 'Get your Sparkle On' campaign. Those who follow me on instagram have probably already seen me sharing them over there along with the other bloggers taking part using the hashtag #appletisersparkle. The campaign is all about empowering women and making them feel strong, in control & beautiful. It was hard to come up with 5 rules and I'm sure now I will think of so many more things I left out!
You can find the T&Cs for this comp here.
UPDATE:Thank you so much for sharing your rules, so nice to read and be inspired. Congratulations to Carmen @ Forgotten Fancies the winner of the $200 PeepToe Voucher.

ahh nice rules!! I always think dont focus on things you cant change and my Mum always said treat others how youd like to be treated!
DeleteBe kind to others and yourself, be contempt with what you have, be truthful to others and never change who you are to suit others. Oh and spoil yourself, often.
ReplyDeleteon not changing to suit others is very true!
DeleteI try to live by is to be kind to others and yourself. And to laugh often xx
ReplyDeletelove these rules!!
DeleteTo live, I just have one rule: live it simple. If you think too much, overthink can kill you. Just keep grateful for what you have. Life without up and dowm isn't worth living :)
ReplyDeleteyes, often the simple things in life are the most beautiful :)
DeleteI live by: every step you take is a step closer to your goal!<3
ReplyDeletevery true!! and to do something towards your goal every day and oyu will get there!! thats how I tell myself to get through my phd
DeleteI love this quote (especially for the troubles that have occurred as of late): "when you feel that you cannot go any further, just know that the strength which carried you this far will take you the rest of the way".
ReplyDeleteavenuemblog@gmail.com

Deletemy rules for life is don't be lazy and never give up. Believe in yourself and stop saying stupid to yourself. What you need to do is keep walking even is gonna hurt you :)Irene Wibowo
ReplyDeleteI had trouble picking just one! But when it came down to it this is what I think I live by most:
ReplyDeleteFollow your heart through life, loving others as you would like to be.
x Hayley
Simple; do whatever makes you happy. As long as it brings you joy, never give up on it, never doubt it. :)

ReplyDeleteaw, I am honoured you loved my post that much! thank you.
Delete1. Love.
ReplyDelete2. Think positive.
3. Enjoy every single day.
4. Lend a helping hand.
5. Always say the truth.
beautiful rules! and ones I also live by, helping others and being kind is defs one of my rules too.
DeleteMy rule in life is to "find something happy in the everyday". Whilst you might think that you have just another day at work, at home, etc being bored, I like to try and find something sweet and positive. A 5 min break at work to check a hilarious facebook post. Coming home to a cuddle from my partner. Etc.
ReplyDeleteaw that is such a nice rule! sometimes we get too caught up in future goals and plans that we forget to take time to really appreciate the moment.
DeleteTravel, be open minded, take risks, appreciate everything around you.
ReplyDeleteThis TED talk is a great source of inspiration too: http://www.ted.com/talks/louie_schwartzberg_nature_beauty_gratitude.html?source=facebook#.UMGcF8jIFZp.facebook
I love TED!! so inspiring
DeleteI love this post...it really got me thinking about what is important to me.
ReplyDelete1. Take every opportunity but learn when to walk away.
2. Be kind to all but remember to include your family as they are the easiest to take for granted.
3. Try and look at things from other perspectives...it can allow creativity and thought to take a giant leap.
4. Treat animals with respect.
5. Travel with a open mind.
number 1 is so true, it can be so hard to know when to let things go! Thanks Monica, so happy you enjoyed the post :)
DeleteSuch a thought-provoking exercise! Lets see...
ReplyDelete1. Never stop exploring - theres nothing I love more than a new cafe, a new favourite spot in my own city, or travelling to new places
2. Live the life you love - Do whatever you can to be in places and around people that you love, doing what you love. Life's not always perfect, but its important to fight for your own happiness
3. The love and respect you give is the love and respect you get - simple.
4. Generosity is a lifestyle - live generously
I'll have to get back to you about a fifth!

I couldn't agree with you more! It's hard for me to come up with other rules for life actually, because my rules are pretty much the same as yours. But I would add: 1) treat others as you would like to be treated 2) never stop learning new things and acquiring new skills. That's something no one can ever take away from you.
ReplyDeleteI love your rules!
ReplyDeleteMine are:
Eat well, travel often.
Dream big, work it out from there
Treat others how you want to be treated
Remember where you came from
1. Love and trust God with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind
ReplyDelete2. Love others before yourself
3. Be you
4. Dress as though every day is significant
5. do what you love
http://liberatedbylkc.blogspot.co.nz/
No matter what happens in life stay positive and stay in the present because you never know is around the corner.
ReplyDeleteI also believe to do what makes you happy not what makes others happy :) Reach for the stars anything is possible!

ReplyDelete- Never dwell on insignificant problems when you can appreciate the more beautiful sides of life
- Get outside for some fresh air every day...even if it's only to walk around the block and get a coffee
- Lighten up. Silly fights are not worth it - save those for important things. And never go to bed or leave the house angry!
- Stand up for yourself. People will either respect you or condemn you but at least you'll know who is worth it.
- Have one or two morning rituals that you do every day to prepare for the outside world - a coating of mascara, a dab of lipgloss, a warm lemon water, or a dance around the house in your underwear - it will get you prepared to for a good day.
